I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE

JESUS: I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE
John 6:25-59
I. Jesus satisfies EVERY human need.
a. Manna from heaven met the Israelites needs, but they became bored with it and hungry again
b. Jesus is the bread of life that SATISFIES every human need because he has come from the Father who knows what we need before we ask
c. Daily Bread- daily we need to come to Jesus who is the source of our life
d. Abraham Maslow- American Psychologist- Maslow’s Hierarchy of Human Needs- Physiological, Safety, Love/Belonging, Esteem, Self Actualization

II. Hierarchy of Human Needs Satisfied by Jesus
a. Physiological- Jesus healed the BODY and SOUL because of the connection between the two.
i. God has provided for all our needs. Sin keeps people in want. We live in a world of plenty dwelling in a land of want in the midst of people in need. The Body of Christ
ii. Jesus feeding the Five Thousand- 16Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat."- Two Fish/ Five Loaves
iii. Do not be anxious.
iv. Philippians 4- 12I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
b. Safety- the Christian life is not safe, but it is secure.
i. Psalm 23:6- Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
ii. 2 Corinthians 4:16- Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
iii. Romans 8- 31What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."[l] 37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[m] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
iv. 2 Corinthians 4- 8We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 10We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. 11For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body. 12So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.
c. Love/Belonging
i. NEW FAMILY- Matthew 12:50- For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother
ii. NEW COMMUNITY- Romans 12:5- 5so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
iii. NEW HOME- John 14:2- In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.
d. Esteem- respect, confidence, achievement
i. We all want to know that what we do has worth and achieves a lasting purpose (legacy)
ii. Matthew 6: 19"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
iii. Matthew 25:14-30- The Parables of the talent.
iv. When was the last time you asked God what he wanted for your life?
e. Self-Actualization- Purpose
